Happened to visit Dallas for the Memorial Day weekend in search of exciting food for my readers. I would have been sensing some fatigue if I still churn out posts from Houston (My stomping ground!!).
Well, Dallas has been good to me always (Argh!! Not the weather), so I need to return the favor by excavating some hidden gems out there.
It was around half past two in the afternoon, I was done with my brunch and craving for some dessert. Perfect time, ain't it?
I thought so, too.
I get confused if the restaurant I am going to divulge has popped up in my mind as I was craving for a dessert or was it the other way around?
The restaurant is quite acclaimed after the best dessert one could find in the United States of America (or, the world!) and that is reminiscent of the fact that it adorns the name of it as well.
Yes, you heard it right!
It's Whiskey Cake.
Situated in a spacey lot, this restaurant is a casual bar which welcomes all age groups. It's an american cuisine laid out with typical bar food consisting of burgers (pretty good) and BBQ. Famous for its Breakfast and Brunch options as well. Go get some Benedict, Amen!
Sorry for digressing from 'The' Whiskey Cake. So, wasn't that busy during the afternoon and I got placed in the patio and our lady came up with the menu. I was in no mood to look at that as I knew my order.
"Get me the whiskey cake!!" I blurted out. I could see the servers getting those orders to various tables and the excitement of each diner is a treat to watch. I was starting to get restless and then came out my order.
That is sheer goodness, what you have just witnessed. You just cannot, not fall in love with it. The flavor protruded throughout the patio. They get you the cake and a bowl of cream freshly made in house separately or on top of it. I rather recommend you to get it separately as you get larger amounts of the cream and you'll know why.
It is a toffee torte which is generally a sweet cake made with little to no flour but with loads of groundnuts, eggs and bread crumbs. The texture of the cake is so smooth, you could second guess it for an ice cream. One of the protagonists for this dish would be the Bourbon Crème Anglaise made of bourbon(Obviously!), cream, sugar and starch and is served hot on top of the cake. You also have the spiced pecans which provide the perfect crunch to this delectable dessert. Finally, you have the whipped cream which is so wavy and smooth in its consistency. You need to try this cream. This is not the whipped cream you get in Walmart, I vouch on that!
The final box left to tick is tasting the fusion of all aforementioned ingredients and I made sure I get all of them in my first bite.
"This has to be the best dessert in the world!!" I told my brother who accompanied me for this rendezvous. I do not hold a sweet tooth nor do I go gaga over desserts but this one is pure paradise. The whiskey cake is for every individual out there. If you ever happen to be in Dallas, please make sure to get this finger-licking goodness.
Surely, a crime worth committing!
